Topamax is used as a brand name of topiramate that is known as an antiepileptic or anticonvulsant drug.
Topamax is used to control epilepsy. You can take Topamax for migraines to reduce its chances of an attack. It only lessens the attacks and doesn’t treat a migraine once it happens. Do as recommended by your doctor in case you get a headache. You can also use Topamax for weight loss.

Topamax Side Effects
Side Effects of Topamax: If you find any signs of allergic reaction such as trouble breathing, hives, or swelling of your tongue or throat, seek the medical help immediately. Also, inform your doctor if there are new symptoms such as panic attacks, difficulty sleeping, anxiety, behavior or mood changes, or if you feel depressed, restless, hostile, aggressive, impulsive, nervous, or hyperactive either mentally or physically.
Contact you doctor right away if you have one or more of the following side effect such as:
soreness behind your ears
immediate vision loss or blurred view
memory problems like thinking slowly, difficult to concentrate, confusion and trouble speaking smoothly
numbness and tingling
increased thirst and dry mouth
less sweating, dry skin, and increased body temperature
drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling nervous
pain in your lower back and abdominal pain
trouble urination or pink urine
vomiting, diarrhea, topamax weight loss
loss of appetite
Unusual bleeding or bruising
If you are suffering from any kind of allergy, inform your doctor before taking Topamax. This drug comprises of some inactive ingredients that can result in allergic reactions. Discuss your medical history with your doctor prior to using this medication such as lung or breathing issues, liver problems, vision problems, kidney stones, mental issues like depression or thinking of suicide, diarrhea, osteoporosis, metabolic acidosis, and a ketogenic diet.
Don’t drive or perform any activity for which you have to be full alert as Topamax may make you drowsy or dizzy. Avoid Alcohol.
You may sweat less and get heatstroke while taking this medicine. Hence, avoid the activities like an exercise in hot weather. Drink plenty of water and dress lightly. Search for a place to cool down if you get overheated.
Children may strongly get affected by the side effects of this drug particularly weakened bones, decreased sweating and slowed growth rate. The side effect by which older adults may get affected is dizziness.
Topamax makes the birth control pills less effective. Be careful while using this medication during pregnancy as it may hurt an unborn baby. If your are planning to become pregnant or feel like you have become pregnant, immediately approach your doctor and discuss using this medicine safely during pregnancy. Untreated epilepsy is a serious condition by which both a pregnant woman and her unborn baby may get harmed, so do not stop taking Topamax unless your Doctor suggests so. Also, check with your doctor before breastfeeding as this medicine passes into breast milk and can have some serious effects on the infant.
